Bolongo's Richard Doumeng Takes Office as CHTA President

Managing Director of Bolongo Bay Beach Resort Richard Doumeng will take office today as President of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) for a two-year term (2012 – 2014) at the CHTA Annual General Meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He has set his agenda to reinvigorate and reinvent the CHTA by strengthening its individual National Hotel Associations.

Doumeng, a second-generation hotelier and past recipient of the CHTA Caribbean Hotelier of the Year award, takes the helm of the CHTA as the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary. During the meeting today in Jamaica, the CHTA will elect the five Vice Presidents and Treasurer who will serve with Doumeng during his presidency.

“CHTA is an association of the National Hotel Associations. By strengthening the National Hotel Associations, we will bring direct and tangible value to our membership,” says Doumeng. “Our success as a region is tied to their success.”

His goals for the next two years are to: return CHTA to strong fiscal responsibility, focus CHTA’s energy and resources on programs and events that benefit the majority of the membership, strengthen the improved relationship between CHTA and the Caribbean Tourism Organization through the Caribbean Tourism Development Company, continue the CHTA advocacy awareness with the Tourism is Key campaign, enhance the Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition, and generate more support for the CHTA Education Foundation.

“While the economy is still uncertain, I am optimistic for the future of our region,” adds Doumeng. “Together we can reinvigorate, revitalize and reinvent the CHTA so that we will thrive, not just survive, in the next 50 years.”

Doumeng was elected President-elect by acclamation at the Annual General Meeting of CHTA, held last June in Miami, FL. He has served on the CHTA Board of Directors for 20 years and Vice President of the association for the past 10 years.

Rock n' roll legends Stevie Wonder & Dave Mason at Iggies Beach Bar

Stevie Wonder and Dave Mason, two musical legends and Rock n' roll hall of famers happened to meet up at Iggies Beach Bar & Grill last night.
And then there was music!

Who could have guessed who was coming to dinner when the car pulled up to Iggies.... low and behold, Stevie Wonder gets out and sits down for a bite to eat. We are so honored that he chose to dine at our beach bar while on St. Thomas. To everyone's excitement he gets up to the mic and starts playing the harmonica with The Becca Darling Band. Later our good friend, Dave Mason who is staying here at Bolongo get's back from dinner and him and Stevie Wonder treated us all to a fantastic jam session.
What a night! Spectacular! Fabulous! Unreal! I am sure everyone who was there have their word to describe the feeling of seeing the two of them at Iggies. Iggies is truly the place to be!!!

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort named on Frommer list of "World's 10 Best Beachfront Hotels"

Where to Stay Steps From the Sand
By Charis Atlas Heelan
Many hotels claim to be located on the beach or have spectacular ocean views -- but you're either beachfront or you're not. For travelers who aren't satisfied with having to cross a road, walk down from a cliff, or climb over rocks to reach the beach, we've found 10 affordable beachfront hotels with rooms, suites, and bungalows that are literally steps from the sand.

If you crave a midnight dip or perpetually sandy toes, these 10 destinations are for you. Keep in mind that some of the world's most desirable beaches may not have properties directly on the sand (without having to cross a boardwalk or a major road), or these hotels may charge an obscene premium for the privilege. Fortunately, each of these hotels offers great value and even better views. From the Greek Islands to the Great Barrier Reef, allow us to help you find your perfect beach getaway.  Read more on Frommers.
